I am looking forward to this time. In Israel last night there were 87 Kassams, Mortars and small Katuyshas that fell - there have been many injuries so we must pray for Kal Yisroel’s safety.
This is our first live blog…
For those that don’t know Qassams aka Kassams are rockets filled with explosives, produced by Hamas, (destruction). They fired these rockets into Yisroel, G-d Forbid!
Yes, Please join with us in praying for Kal Yisroel’s safety.
I was thinking about the miracle of Channakah last night and it made me realize that if HaShem Cares so much about providing Light for the Temple, I know that He truly does Care about the smallest things in my life.
Tribbles we are just learning how to live blog…
We are having the same difficulty you had getting signed in…
Last night we lite the Chanukah lights. It brought such a warm feeling into our room.
A prayer, Hashem, please provide for the safety of Kal Yisroel and Eretz Yisroel immediately. Vanquish Thine enemies immediately, please Hashem!
That is a beautiful thought, Tribbles, this is my understanding as well, Hashem Does Care about the smallest things in our lives! That little vile of oil… a great connection with Chanukah.
And I think of the small, ragtag Maccabees led by Judah. Courage looming larger than life itself! With no military equipment to speak of, standing up against the Greek army, the greatest of the times. With the knowledge and confidence that Hashem Was on their side, there Fighting their righteous fight. Contemplating this gives me courage!
As I have been studying about the Temple and the different functions and roles that people had there it is easier to understand the different roles of Jew and non Jew. From Chabad I have learned that the Jew is supposed to help increase the level of Spirituality for the non Jew yet I don’t see many other than Chabad and B’nai Noach Torah Institute reaching out. Why is this?
We were teetering back and forth about rather we should have a Chanukah Party. We invited a neighbor, {Ted} several Shabbatot before, but were having trouble getting ahold of him to confirm.. As the first night of Chanukah approached {about 36 hours a way} we decided to go ahead with the party. Naomi Leah began making calls. I made a few. It was really great! About thirteen of B’nei Yisroel and of B’nai Noach showed up. We had a really nice time.
‘From Chabad I have learned that the Jew is supposed to help increase the level of Spirituality for the non Jew yet I don’t see many other than Chabad and B’nai Noach Torah Institute reaching out. Why is this?’
First, many Observant Jews do not support the internet. The internet is 24/7
Naomi Leah, You said, (And I think of the small, ragtag Maccabees led by Judah. Courage looming larger than life itself! ) Courage is hard to come by and hard to maintain. I need more of it.
‘From Chabad I have learned that the Jew is supposed to help increase the level of Spirituality for the non Jew yet I don’t see many other than Chabad and B’nai Noach Torah Institute reaching out. Why is this?’
As you already indicated, we at B’nai Noach Torah Institute try to reach out. At our Chanukah party we had three B’nai Noach and ten B’nei Yisroel.
For those who may not know B’nei Yisroel {Jews -= The Children of Israel} are suppose to Observe 613 Mitzvot / Commands of Ha Torah. B’nai Noach {Spiritualists - The Children of Noach} are suppose to Observe 7 Mitzvot of Ha Torah.
Channakah seems like a wonderful time for B’nai Noach and B’nai Yisroel to get together.
Tribbles, So do I…need more courage! Let’s share inspirations in this area. During Chanukah for the past 10 years or so, I get a great dose of inspiration from the great Judah and the Maccabees. Think about the odds against them! They faced death head on, knowing their fight to reclaim the precious Holy Temple and reconsecrate it was important enough to wage in the face of certain death.
I get inspired by some stories I read in AARP the Magazine. Glenn Close’s story in the Jan/Feb (01/02) 2009 issue is inspiring. She is speaking out in advocacy of those with mental illness and their families, from the stance of having a relative with mental illness and being part of the family. That’s courage.
The miracle of Chanukah is wonderful! Re-telling the story of Chanukah is very special. At our Chanukah party Ted was going to recall the Chanukah story but Shoshana, one of two Jews in her high school volunteered to share the story of Chanukah that she shared with her entire high school. IT WAS REALLY GREAT!
Illness in any family provides an opportunity to see what kind of metal you are made of. It can be an impetus to great things. It can also reak havoc in lives. I think the difference is whether one Believes and Trusts in HaShem G-d
Tribbles, About Chanukah, I agree! It is a wonderful time for B’nai Noach and B’nei Yisroel to get together. It is a warm, relaxed and informal time for remembering our illustrious past and enjoying the present with friends and family.
I agree with you about illness in a family. Belief in Hashem and bitachon (unswerving faith in Hashem) is the pivotal factor…
Tribbles Illness, injury, and problems can certainly challenge one’s day. It places extra curves in the road… extra road bumps… extra detours in the road etc…
When one succeeds when one rises above the challenges this is a real good feeling.
Tribbles, Are you getting any time off from work during the rest of the secular year 2008 and into early 2009? In my field, things do slow down considerably during this time. It’s a nice break. We got a surprise afternoon off yesterday (announced a few days ahead.) Of course today is a paid holiday (no complaints on that front!) and 01/01/09 is too. At this point, that’s it, which is nice…
Dr. Akiva Gamliel and I have been on for a little over 2 hours and we’ll be signing off here… Tribbles, thanks for joining in. Thanks to everyone else who tried. This is our first live blog and we had a number of issues to resolve. We know not everyone who tried to sign in could actually get on. Our apologies! We think we have it resolved now and will be back 7-8pm Eastern Standard Time this evening to give it a whirl again! Hope to blog with you then!
Signing off for now with Blessings of peace, health, prosperity, generous heart and courage to you, Rebbetzin Naomi Leah
