Our Devri Torah Limood is in the loving Memory of Jeanne C. W.  Pierre, Joseph Adam Pierre, Louella P. Bienvenu, Barbara Pierre and Terrill B. Thomas may they rest in peace.

In this Perek of HaTorah we have the original sin. Discussing is immediately after Rosh HaShanah , the ten days of repentance and Yom Kippur seems like a good ideal.

How do we avoid sin?

We observe how sin is introduced. Sin is introduced by a cunning, crafty, clever, skilled, artful, devious, scheming, calculating, shrewd, astute, deceitful, deceptive individual whose aim is to achieve their goal. In other words Television.  Advertisers on television use many deceitful styles to sell their product.  Television is an easy target because it is in so many homes in our world.

Television is the means by which people who are very skilled and well financed sell their products.

Now the original sin was not caused by television. Ha Torah Says the sin of Adam and Chavah was introduced by a serpent that could talk and reason and lie.

1.) Talking: Bereisheit 3.1

'And the serpent said...'

2.) Reasoning: Bereisheit 3.1

'Did G-d even say that you should not eat from the trees of the Garden?'

3.) Lies: Bereisheit 3.1

'You certainly will not die.  For G-d Knows that on the day you will eat from it, your eyes will be opened, and you will become gods, knowing what is good and what is evil.'

4.) False Promises: Bereisheit 3.1

This sounds like drugs.  The presentation is this will open your eyes. You will have fabulous new experiences that will enlighten you...

Why would the Serpent say the Words, 'knowing what is good and what is evil'  Why would he say this when humankind were created with a Good Inclination and an Evil Inclination?    [The word vah-yizer] is written with two Yod's, to show that God Created two inclinations, one good and the other evil, Beresheit 61a.  Man already knew what was good and evil. The statement from the serpent indicates that humans were missing something. What is it that man was missing?   Bereisheit 1.27 clearly states, וַיִּבְרָא אֱלֹהִים ׀ אֶת־הָאָדָם בְּצַלְמוֹ בְּצֶלֶם אֱלֹהִים בָּרָא 'And Hashem G-d Created Everything from the Letter Aleph to the Lettter Tav of Adam and Chavah.' Nothing was left out.  They were created complete.  Their relationship was prepared for every situation.  There was nothing they could not face.  They were prepared to face sin even the most cunning, crafty, clever, skilled, artful, devious, scheming, calculating, shrewd, astute, deceitful, deceptive individual!

Bereisheit 1.27

Why would  'knowing what is good and what is evil' attract Chavah to disobey the Command of the Creator in Bereisheit 2.7?  She wanted something that was out of her reach.  Why would Adam follow her?  Why does Ha Torah Say after they disobeyed G-d 'that there eyes were opened that they realized that they were naked'? (Bereisheit 3.7)

6.) Listening to the wrong beings: Bereisheit 3.5

7.) Being Influenced by the wrong being: Bereisheit 3.5

They were influenced by the serpent who  cunning, crafty, clever, skilled, artful, devious, scheming, calculating, shrewd, astute, deceitful, deceptive

8.) Seeing: Bereisheit 3.6

The Woman saw... Notice the Letter Tav in front of the Reh.  The Tav is place their to tell us this is an important sign,

9.) Tempting: Bereisheit 3.6

The fruit was tempting. Sin is tempting. Disobedience is tempting.

10.) Appealing: Bereisheit 3.6

Sin is appealing.

11.) Obtaining Wisdom: Bereisheit 3.6

Yes, their eyes were opened.  Yes, they obtained wisdom.  They obtained wisdom that they could only experience from sinning.

The Test:

Ha Torah Says:

יִּקַּח יְהוָֹה אֱלֹהִים אֶת־הָאָדָם וַיַּנִּחֵהוּ בְגַן־עֵדֶן לְעָבְדָהּ וּלְשָׁמְרָהּ

'G-d Took Everything from the Letter Aleph to the Lettter Tav of Adam and Chavah, {Nothing was left out.} and placed him in the Garden of Eden to it and to guard it.'Bereisheit 2.15

None of us can get by the test.  We will all be tested!  We have everything we need to pass the test. Yet we will be tested.  Each of us can improve our situation by knowing how the test are administered.  This is the purpose for this Devri Torah Limood.

May each of us be careful to observe these points that warn us so we can avoid sin and sinning and remain true to our Creator.

G-d Bless each of us!

Blessings, Love and peace,

Dr. Akiva Gamliel
