Bereisheit 20.3

'God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, Behold, you are but a dead man, because of the woman whom you have taken; for she is a man's wife.'

Bereisheit 31.10

'And it came to pass at the time that the cattle conceived, that I lifted up my eyes, and saw in a dream, and, behold, the rams which leaped upon the cattle were striped, spotted and speckled.'

Bereisheit 31.11

'And the Gngel of God Spoke to me in a dream, saying, Jacob; And I said, Here am I.'

Bereisheit 37.5

'And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it his brothers; and they hated him even more.'

Bereisheit 40.8

'Do not interpretations belong to God?'

BaMidbar 12.6-8

Our Creator Said,  'And he said, Hear now my words; If there is a prophet among you, I the Lord will make myself known to him in a vision, and will speak to him in a dream.  Not so with my servant Moses, for he is the trusted one in all my house. With him I speak mouth to mouth, manifestly, and not in dark speech; and he behold the form of the Lord.'

Rabbi Michael Munk writes in his Book, The Wisdom in the Hebrew Alphabet on page 112, 'The number eight symbolizes man's ability to transcend the limitations of physical existence.' The Letter ח / Chet which in Gematria is the number eight is the first Letter of חֲלוֹם / Chah Lom, meaning to dream to have a vision. The first three usages of חֲלוֹם actually begin with the Letter ב Bet as referenced above. The Letter ב Bet normally means in or with or through. The letter Bet combined with Chah Lom means in a dream or through a dream or with a dream etc. Mystically our Creator can and does communicate with us in a dream or a vision.

The first time Ha Torah records the actual use of the word בַּחֲלוֹם meaning in a dream is in Bereisheit 20.3 Our Creator Spoke to a Noachide king, Avimelech.

Another way our Creator Communicates with us is through a deep sleep known as תַּרְדֵּמָה / Tah Rih Day Maw.  Here one enters a state of unconsciousness. It's as if the Letter Chet like a bag descends upon us.

Bereisheit 2.21

'And the Lord God Made Adam fall into a deep sleep, and he slept; and He took one from his side, and closed up the flesh.'

Bereisheit 15.12

' And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and, lo, a fear of great darkness fell upon him.'

Bereisheit 15.1

After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram; I am your shield, and your reward will be great.

Then there is Vah Yah Rawh where one has a mental vision as Avram did in Bereisheit 18.1. Avraham's eyes may have been open but most likely they were closed.  He had a mental vision.  This is similar to a dream. One may be awake.

Bereisheit 18.1

Dear Ones our point here is to say there are special ways some of us may experience a communication from God. It helps to know what is happening. If you would like to share a vision or a dream  from our Creator we have a web blog set up to discuss and share at:

I will share a recent dream in the blog.

Blessings and peace,

Dr. Akiva Gamliel and Rebbetzin Revi Belk
