Our course discussion begins with an explanation of Gematria. From there we move into a clarification of what the Torah is. We discuss the great importance of the Torah in the function of every persons life. We examine the relationship of The Torah and the number 613. We discover that the 'Light', written in Genesis 1.1-4 is the Revelation of God as disseminated through 613 Commands. It is not the sun or the moon which were created on day four. We learn that the 613 Commands flow out from the Words God Spoke, 'Let My Light Be Revealed.' We learn of the great importance of the 613 Commands for each of us. 


Some Commands are just for B'nei Yisroel / The Children of Israel. Other Commands are for every humans on this earth. Come Commands are just for women. Some Commands are just for men. Some Commands are for the Kohan Gadol / the High Priest. Some Commands are for Commands are for just the Priests. Some Commands are just for the Levites.  Some Commands are for just farmers. Some Commands are just for children. The point is there are 613 Revelations of God's Light to us. No one Observes all 613 Commands. Yet each of us are suppose to Observe some of our Creator's Commands. 


All that we have flows from the light we have received. 


We view the Commands differently based upon our revelation.  That is O. K. We Observe the Commands differently based upon our revelation.  That is O. K. None of us has the golden key that unlocks the complete intent for each Command from our Creator.

1. Define the Words 'Eht Ha Ohr'.

2. Explain the intent, the meaning of Light in the Words, 'And God Said, Let there be Light: and there was Light. And God Saw the Light was good and God Divided the Light from the Darkness.

3.We discussed Teshuvah / Repentance in the audio. We know that Adam and Eve were Created on the six day, were separated on the sixth day, had Cain on the sixth day, sinned on the sixth day, were judged for their sin on the sixth day, were removed from the Garden of Eden on the sixth day and most importantly forgiven of there sin on the sixth day. Aside from the writings in Adam's Book how do we know this?

Offerings In The Bible


Our discussion reveals several surprises about sacrifices.  In this audio I say the first Animal sacrifice was offered in the year 1657 From Creation.  How do we know this?


1. Taking life rather human or animal was forbidden until the year 1657 From Creation. 


And God said [to Adam and Eve], Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, on which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for food, Genesis 1.29.


[And God said] to every beast of the earth, and to every bird of the air, and to every thing that creeps upon the earth, where there is life, I have given every green herb for food; and it was so, Genesis 1.30.


- The Lord God Did Not take the lives of animals to provide Adam and Chavah a covering.  


Ha Torah Says,


 וַיַּעַשׂ יְהֹוָה אֱלֹהִים לְאָדָם וּלְאִשְׁתּוֹ כָּתְנוֹת עוֹר וַיַּלְבִּשֵׁם


For Adam and for his wife the Lord God made coats of skins, and clothed them, Genesis 3.12


The Word עוֹר means [epidermis] skins - meaning the outer layer. The serpent caused the problem so the Creator caused the Serpent to shed its skin. The Creator wove lamb / goats wool with skin from the serpent to form garments for Adam and Chava. There was no shedding of blood.


- Neither Cain nor Able offered Animal Sacrifices.


וַיְהִי מִקֵּץ יָמִים וַיָּבֵא קַיִן מִפְּרִי הָאֲדָמָה מִנְחָה לַיהוָֹה: 


And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering to the Lord, Genesis 4.3.  This was spoiled flax seed. Cain's offering was not accepted because it was not from the first fruit and because the offering was spoiled flax seed. It was slimy.


The Word מִנְחָה Minchah tells us the Offering was not meat.


וְהֶבֶל הֵבִיא גַם־הוּא מִבְּכֹרוֹת צֹאנוֹ וּמֵחֶלְבֵהֶן וַיִּשַׁע יְהֹוָה אֶל־הֶבֶל וְאֶל־מִנְחָתוֹ:  


And Abel also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of rich cream of it. And the Lord had respect for Abel and for his offering; One could also say rich cream or the fat of the offering because the spelling for rich cream and animal fat is the same. Yet we know it was not an animal offering because the Word Minchato tells us the Offering was not meat.


וַיִּבֶן נֹחַ מִזְבֵּחַ לַיהוָֹה וַיִּקַּח מִכֹּל ׀ הַבְּהֵמָה הַטְּהֹרָה וּמִכֹּל הָעוֹף הַטָּהוֹר וַיַּעַל עֹלֹת בַּמִּזְבֵּחַ:  


Later Noach would bring a 'Burnt Offering'. This is identified by the Word עֹלֹת Oh Loht which represent it was a bird or animal. When the Word Minchah is used it is not an animal.  When the Word Olam or Oh Loht are used it is an animal offering. 


Abel's offering was accepted because it was from the 'first fruit'. The Offering came from a first born goat or lamb.  We know this because of the Word מִבְּכֹרוֹת Mee Bih Coor Oht meaning 'from first born.'  We know it was the best because of the Word וּמֵחֶלְבֵהֶן Oov May Cheh Lih Beh Hehn meaning 'And From the [rich] Cream. The offering was from the finest of the first born and the richest cream.

The misunderstandings come about from poor translations into English. It is understandable how English readers with little or no Hebrew language skills could become mislead here.

Influence Of The Letter Chof In Avraham's Life

Dear Ones when we speak of the Words לֶךְ־לְךָ Lech Lecha we are speaking of two different chronological places in time. 


 וַיֹּאמֶר לְאַבְרָם יָדֹעַ תֵּדַע כִּי־גֵר ׀ יִהְיֶה זַרְעֲךָ בְּאֶרֶץ לֹא לָהֶם וַעֲבָדוּם וְעִנּוּ אֹתָם אַרְבַּע מֵאוֹת שָׁנָהיד וְגַם אֶת־הַגּוֹי אֲשֶׁר יַעֲבֹדוּ דָּן אָנֹכִי וְאַחֲרֵי־כֵן יֵצְאוּ בִּרְכֻשׁ גָּדוֹל:


The first Lech is after the fires of Ur Kasdim. At that time Avram was 70 years old. This time frame is noted in Bereisheit 15 where our Creator Says to Avram,  Know for a certainty that your seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years; 14  And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge; and afterward shall they come out with great wealth, Bereisheit 15.13,14.


Here we learn that one must pay close attention to what Ha Torah is Saying. Notice the Words your seed. A few Word later we read four hundred years. This would be very confusing if one read Shemot / Exodus 12.40 next.   Why? 


Now the sojourning of the people of Israel, who dwelt in Egypt, was four hundred and thirty years.  And it came to pass at the end of the four hundred and thirty years, even on that very day it came to pass, that all the hosts of the Lord went out from the land of Egypt, Shemot 12.40,41.


Stop and think about this. Avraham was 70 years of age when he learned about the 400 years. Avram was born in 1948 FC so this has to be 2018 FC.  B'nai Yisroel were delivered from Mitzrim / Egypt in 2448 FC.  What is the difference between 2018 and 2448?  It is 430. So how then can one Passuk / Verse say 400 years and another 430 years. This is where perception is necessary. 


Avram was in a strange land for 430 years.

Avram's seed did not arrive until 30 years later when Avraham was 100 years old. See Bereisheit 21.5.   How Old was Avraham?  He was one-hundred years old. So the measure meant in Bereisheit 15 begins thirty years later with the birth of Yitzchok / Isaac and Avraham's measurement noted in Shemot 12 began when Avraham was 70 years old. 


After the first Lech Avram returned to visit his father.  It was then that the Creator used stronger language with Avram. Our Creator Said, 'Lecha'.  Together Lech Lecha are the Gematria of 100 the age Avraham's son was born to him.


Bereisheit 12.1

 וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָֹה אֶל־אַבְרָם לֶךְ־לְךָ מֵאַרְצְךָ וּמִמּוֹלַדְתְּךָ וּמִבֵּית אָבִיךָ אֶל־הָאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר אַרְאֶךָּ:


Lets review the Letter Chof.


Bereisheit 12.1

 וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָֹה אֶל־אַבְרָם לֶךְ־לְךָ מֵאַרְצְךָ וּמִמּוֹלַדְתְּךָ וּמִבֵּית אָבִיךָ אֶל־הָאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר אַרְאֶךָּ:


The Letter Chof often connects a Word in Ha Torah.  When this happens the Letter Chof leads the Word.  For example notice Bereisheit 13.16.


וְשַׂמְתִּי אֶת־זַרְעֲךָ כַּעֲפַר הָאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר ׀ אִם־יוּכַל אִישׁ לִמְנוֹת אֶת־עֲפַר הָאָרֶץ גַּם־זַרְעֲךָ יִמָּנֶה


This is like the dust of the earth...  Here the Letter Chof connects Avram's descendants with dust.  We see Avraham living like a Chof. He is always making connections. Then in Avraham's final days we see him with the crown / Keter.  He is an elder statesman in the service of his Creator.


Bereisheit 24.1


וְאַבְרָהָם זָקֵן בָּא בַּיָּמִים וַיהוָֹה בֵּרַךְ אֶת־אַבְרָהָם בַּכֹּל:


And Abraham was old, and well advanced in age; and the Lord had blessed Abraham in all things.


Here we see the crown of Blessings upon Avraham.  In our discussion my goal was to make Classmates aware of the Letter Chof's influence on Avraham and to challenge Classmates to be like Avraham from beginning to conclusion.

In this lesson we return to a discussion of the 613 Mitzvot of The Lord. In the textbook: Mysterious SIGNS of the Torah Revealed in GENESIS we teach the 613 Commands of Ha Torah are a revelation of our Creator.  Our Creator said, Let My Light be revealed and what resulted was a revelation of the 613 Commands in the Torah.  Now in this weeks Parshat we add to this the power of PROTECTION. What our Creator has Revealed to us we are to guard, to protect.


Bereisheit 22.1

וַיְהִי אַחַר הַדְּבָרִים הָאֵלֶּה וְהָאֱלֹהִים נִסָּה אֶת־אַבְרָהָם וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו אַבְרָהָם וַיֹּאמֶר הִנֵּנִי:


And it happened after these things that the [Eternal] Judge tested everything from the Letter א Aleph to the Letter ת Tav of Avraham.  And He Said to him, 'Avraham'. And he, [Avraham] responded 'behold'.


Notice the two Words in red.


To Test / to Prove

נִסָּה

Behold / I am Here / I am Ready

הִנֵּנִי

ה5 נ50 נ50 י10 = 115


To be Strong / To be Courageous

חֲזַק

ח8 ז7 ק100 = 115


Dear Ones Avraham was ready to be proven.  Avraham was strong in Torah Observance and Courageous.  The tests are not for the weak. What Avraham was about to experience washout of the realm of normally.  When things are challenging for us we should not think of ourselves as being proven like Avraham was proven. We are not in his realm. Our Creator took Avraham down an entirely different road.   Avraham had to travel three days just to arrive at the proving grounds...  Dear Ones what we face are struggles and difficulties of an entirely different Spiritual level.  We think of them as tests.  We call them tests.  Yet, Did the Eternal Judge Speak to us? Did the Eternal Judge Direct us to do something that is considered very much out of the ordinary?  


The point is many of us struggle from our own errors in judgment. There is a difference between what Avraham faced and what we face.  Avraham was an entirely righteous man. No where in the Torah do we observe Avraham use strong language like Jesus did in Matthew 23. We see Avraham as a man that is very sensitivity. Avraham was a pure man. Avraham was a sanctified man. 


Then one has to ask what about Yitzchok? How could Avraham at 137 years overcome his 37 year old son to offer him as a sacrifice.  It would seem to me that Yitzchok a very very great man also.


Dear Ones, the facts are that most of us we are not on the very high Spiritual level of these great men. Can we image what it would be like to be proven as Avraham and Yitzchok?  The greatness of these two men provides us with a reality check. 


Avraham and Yitzchok learned in the Academy of Shem and Eiver.  Shem and Eiver learned from Metushelach and Noach. Metushelach learned from Chanoch who was taken. Chanoch and Metushelach learned from Adam. We are many generations down the road. We did not have the opportunity to sit at the feet of Metushelach and learn what Adam taught him. 


This may seem like we are denied the opportunity to be an Avraham.  Not so. We must learn as Avraham did on how to gathering the 613 Commands of Torah and how to preserve and protection them.


May we learn from their courageousness, strength and humility.
