Bereisheit / Genesis 1.26

וַיֹּאמֶר אֱלֹהִים נַעֲשֶׂה אָדָם בְּצַלְמֵנוּ כִּדְמוּתֵנוּ וְיִרְדּוּ בִדְגַת הַיָּם וּבְעוֹף הַשָּׁמַיִם וּבַבְּהֵמָה וּבְכָל־הָאָרֶץ וּבְכָל־הָרֶמֶשׂ הָרֹמֵשׂ עַל־הָאָרֶץ

This discussion is based on Genesis 1.26-28; Bereisheit 1.26 - 2.8

Jewish Translation

And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth. Bereisheit 1.26

King James Version -

And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. Genesis 1.26

Dr. Akiva Gamliel's Translation

And G-d Said, [to the Angles] Let Us Make [everything from the first Letter of the Aleph Bet, the Letter Aleph to the last Letter of the Aleph Bet the Letter Tav of Ha Adam] man in Our [Spiritual] Image, after Our [Spiritual] Likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth. Bereisheit / Genesis 1.26

Many are unaware of what is actually being conveyed in Genesis 1.26.  Those of us who understand the meaning Ha Torah is Conveying need to do a much better job or relating the accurate meaning. Why? Many depend upon us to convey the intention in addition to the actual meaning. Those that do not understand Hebrew must rely on those who do understand to properly convey what is being said and what is intended.  Notice the translations above.

Notice the second Word from the right in the Hebrew Text of Bereisheit 1.26; Genesis 1.26.  The second Word is  אֱלֹהִים  Elokim, meaning G-d, gods, judge, judges ruler, rulers.   (See Strong's Reference Number 430)  Elokim is plural.  Does this mean G-d is more than One?  No! How do we know this?  The Word Elokim when it makes reference to G-d our Creator is ALWAYS single. How do we know this?  Devarim 6.4; Deuteronomy 6.4 says, 'Hear Yisroel, Hashem our G-d, Hashem is One.'  Here Moshe records that the יְהוָֹה Word Hashem our G-d is one. The Word Hashem is always singular.  So even though the Word אֱלֹהִים  Elokim, G-d is a Plural Word when the reference is to G-d the Creator the meaning is singular.

Devarim 6.4; Deuteronomy 6.4

 שְׁמַע יִשְׂרָאֵל יְהוָֹה אֱלֹהֵינוּ יְהוָֹה ׀ אֶחָד:

Jewish Translation

Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord, Devarim 6.4

King James Version

Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: Deuteronomy 6.4

Dr. Akiva Gamliel's Translation

'Hear Yisroel, Hashem our G-d, Hashem is One.' Devarim 6.4

Then in addition to this we read many time in Ha Torah the combined Words Hashem G-d {The L-rd G-d}.  Notice Genesis 2.18; Bereisheit 2.18

וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָֹה אֱלֹהִים לֹא־טוֹב הֱיוֹת הָאָדָם לְבַדּוֹ אֶעֱשֶׂה־לּוֹ עֵזֶר כְּנֶגְדּוֹ

 וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָֹה אֱלֹהִים

Vah Yoh Mehr - Hashem Elokim, meaning the L-rd G-d Said is singular even though the Word Elokim is plural.  Why? Every usage of the Word אֱלֹהִים  Elokim when used to make reference to G-d our Creator is always singular in Ha Tenach; the Christian Old Testament.

Sense G-d is One where do we get the Words 'Let Us Make'?  These Words are implied.  The words 'Let Us' are implied.  They do not exist in the Hebrew Text. The Words 'Let Us' are inserted to help explain the Words  בְּצַלְמֵנוּ כִּדְמוּתֵנוּ Bih Tzah Lih Mah Nu  -  Kee Dih Mooh Tah Nu meaning in Our [Spiritual] Image in Our [Spiritual] Likeness.  Both of these Words are plural.

However when the words 'Let Us' are inserted into the English translations one must be careful to also convey the proper meaning.  And G-d Said, [to the Angles] Let Us Make [everything from Aleph to Tav of Ha Adam] man in Our [Spiritual] Image, after Our [Spiritual] Likeness... NOW additional reference to what I am stating is found in the Hebrew Text Bereisheit 1.27; Genesis 1.27.

Bereisheit / Genesis 1.27

 וַיִּבְרָא אֱלֹהִים ׀ אֶת־הָאָדָם בְּצַלְמוֹ

בְּצֶלֶם אֱלֹהִים בָּרָא אֹתוֹ זָכָר וּנְקֵבָה בָּרָא אֹתָם

Jewish Translation

So God created man in His own image, in the image of God created He him; male and female He created them. Bereisheit 1.27

King James Version -

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. Genesis 1.27

Dr. Akiva Gamliel's Translation

And He, G-d, Created [everything from Aleph to Tav of Ha Adam] the man in His [Spiritual] Image in the [Spiritual] Likeness, of G-d, He Created him Male and Her Female [He] Created them. Bereisheit 1.27

Verse 27 Gives account of the actual creation of Humankind.  In Verse 27 we see that וַיִּבְרָא אֱלֹהִים Vah Yih Vih Raw - Elokim as being used is used in the SINGULAR format.  Ha Torah States, 'And He, G-d Created.'

Verse 27 Gives account of the actual creation of humankind.  Ha Torah Says,  וַיִּבְרָא אֱלֹהִים 'And He, G-d Created [SINGULAR]  בְּצַלְמוֹ בְּצֶלֶם אֱלֹהִים  in His [Spiritual] Image [SINGULAR] in His [Spiritual] Form [SINGULAR].   So in the actual creation of humankind G-d Created in the singular.  G-d Created one being that we call אֶת־הָאָדָם Eht - Ha Adam, Everything from the first Letter of the Aleph Bet to the last Letter of the Aleph Bet of the man.  The human creation was first One soul then second One body.  It is very important to notice the 'them' in the Hebrew Text. In Bereisheit 1.27; Genesis 1.27 there is no mention of a body.  The only mention is Spiritual.  Again, in His בְּצַלְמוֹ [Spiritual] Image [SINGULAR] in His בְּצֶלֶם [Spiritual] Form [SINGULAR].  It is important to note that the soul for humankind was created in advance of the body.  The Essence of humankind was created on Yom Sheini, the second day after the creation of the angles.

The Word הָאָדָם Ha Adam which is used in creation of humankind is masculine. This is very important to note.  Why?  Chavah, Eve, the Woman was a part of man in the Created Ha Adam. Adam Ha Reshon, Adam the first man, and Chavah Ha Reshonah and Eve the first Woman shared the same body originally. Chavah was separated from the back side of Ha Adam. Chavah was not taken from a rib. This is for another discussion.  Note what Ha Torah Says,  בָּרָא אֹתוֹ זָכָר וּנְקֵבָה בָּרָא אֹתָם:  He [G-d] Created אֹתוֹ זָכָר meaning him male,  וּנְקֵבָה  meaning her female. Then we notice בָּרָא אֹתָם [He] Created them.

It is from the Text in Bereisheit 1.27 that we learn the Spiritual Form of G-d is both a Masculine Form and a Feminine Form.  When G-d Separated Ha Adam the soul which was one was divided.  Adam was one half of the original soul of Ha Adam.  Chavah was one half of the original soul of Ha Adam.    There is where we get the concept of our 'soul mate'. Two half souls equal a whole soul. {References: Rabbi Moshe Weissman, The Midrash Says (Brooklyn, New York:  Benei Yakov Publications 1980), pp. 31-33}

וַיְבָרֶךְ אֹתָם אֱלֹהִים וַיֹּאמֶר לָהֶם אֱלֹהִים פְּרוּ וּרְבוּ וּמִלְאוּ אֶת־הָאָרֶץ וְכִבְשֻׁהָ וּרְדוּ בִּדְגַת הַיָּם וּבְעוֹף הַשָּׁמַיִם וּבְכָל־חַיָּה הָרֹמֶשֶׂת עַל־הָאָרֶץ:

In Verse 28 we observe the Blessing of G-d as the Righteous Judge on Adam and Chavah on their physical union on their sexual activity as a married couple with the Words,  וַיְבָרֶךְ אֹתָם אֱלֹהִים.  Then we observe G-d Instruction וַיֹּאמֶר לָהֶם אֱלֹהִים to Adam and Chavah. G-d Said to Adam and to Chavah, פְּרוּ וּרְבוּ וּמִלְאוּ אֶת־הָאָרֶץ be fruitful and multiply and fill [everything from Aleph to Tav] of the earth.  This is how we know a homosexual life style is wrong.  Children are not produced from a gay or lesbian lifestyle.  The Blessing of G-d IS ONLY ON the husband Wife relationship!!  This does not mean that one should be mean to Gay or lesbian people.  We should be kind and loving to all of G-d's creatures.

In addition to this please very carefully note that the Blessing of G-d is not on single individuals.  The Blessing of G-d is on the married relationship. This is one reason why I remarried after divorcing.  This is why I sought a new mate. The Blessing of G-d is on the married relationship. Our Creator heals over the wounds of a misplaced marriage with a new special individual in one's life, kaw naw nah haw raw!  May marriage continue to be blessed! It is wise to support marriage when possible.

This Verse of Ha Torah Teaches the only life style that G-d Blessed was that of a man and of a woman who joined as a married couple.  One can produce all the scientific research on genes being related to a particular life styles that they choose but it does not change Ha Torah.  I acknowledge the potential of these studies. I acknowledge that we so to speak live in a modern society but again this does not change what our Creator has Instructed.  I understand and empathize with the struggles we may face and will try to encourage and assist as I can.  I hope you will also assist us at B'nai Noach Torah Institute with you gifts of kindness.

May Hashem Bless each of us with understanding that G-d Created [singular] created humankind in His [singular] image and that each of us who are single are to seriously seek for our mate so that our lives will be blessed by the first Blessing G-d pronounced over man and woman.

Blessings, Love and peace,

Dr. Akiva Gamliel

Bereisheit [Genesis] 2.18

 וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָֹה אֱלֹהִים לֹא־טוֹב הֱיוֹת הָאָדָם לְבַדּוֹ אֶעֱשֶׂה־לּוֹ עֵזֶר כְּנֶגְדּוֹ:

And Hashem G-d Said it is good for Ha Adam [Adam and Chavah / Eve] to be alone.  I will fashion a help mate like[him] opposite [him].

One must question the use of him when we know it is them.  Adam and Chavah are in one shared body that is referred to as him.

 We see that our Creator Endorses some separation of husband and wife.  He Separated them. He Created them.

Originally Adam and Chavah were one body and one soul.  Then they were divided.  They were separated.  Up until this point we know they were in agreement or they could not function.  However after they were separated they each had their own individual choices.  The Word כְּנֶגְדּוֹ Cih Neg Doh means like him [but] opposite of him.  This means Chavah was opposite of him sexually.  This also means that Adam was like Adam and that Chavah was like Adam.  She was created like him.  HOWEVER if Adam would stray from the original Adam, i.e. the created Adam then Chavah would no longer be like the strayed Adam she would be opposite him.

This can work either way.  When a man and woman meet they note certain special qualities in each other that attract them to each other. If either alter their attraction the consequences can be serious.  One can argue that a certain degree of change is normal.  This is true but the core of the individual must remain the same with some exceptions.  Those exceptions are injury and illness.  When ones mate is either injured or become ill this should NOT ALTER THE RELATIONSHIP.  However if the core of the individual in the relationship changes do to other reasons the relationship may fail.  One needs to guard against lethargy and stupor.

My first relationship changed.  I was a Christian who was Jewish.  I was a Christian Pastor who was Jewish.  I became a Messianic Christian who was Jewish.  I became a Messianic Congregation Leader who was Jewish.  I eventually returned to Judaism.  My Christian wife was justified in not converting.  I was NOT the husband she married.  My core principles changed from being those of a Christian / Messianic to those of an Observant Jew.  This was a dramatic core change.

My second relationship changed.  I was injured while at work.  Several years later my wife was diagnosed cancer. Our relationship changed.  I was no longer the man she married.  She was no longer the woman I married.  This was very difficult.  Each of the core beings changed because of injury and sickness.  My core being changed. I became more dormant. My wife's core being changed Spiritually and sexually.

When an individual's core being changes his / her mate will object.  The relationship may not survive.

Bereisheit [Genesis] 2.21

 וַיַּפֵּל יְהֹוָה אֱלֹהִים ׀ תַּרְדֵּמָה עַל־הָאָדָם וַיִּישָׁן וַיִּקַּח אַחַת מִצַּלְעֹתָיו וַיִּסְגֹּר בָּשָׂר תַּחְתֶּנָּה

Hashem G-d Caused a deep sleep to fall on Ha Adam, the man. [This appears like both Adam and Chavah were asleep.  Both were not conscious.]  Hashem G-d Took from the being that was Ha Adam, [i.e. Adam and Chavah] and closed the flesh in its place.

When a relationship becomes dormant, unexciting, lacking vigor we could say it is in a state of unconsciousness.  The true relationship has ended.  The relationship is going no where.  The woman is taken from the man.  The man is separated from the woman.  This should be a sign to us that we should guard against allowing our relationships to become dormant. We should do our best to keep our relationship from becoming lethargic or stupor. Relationships need vitality.  Relationships need excitement.  There is a painful principle here. Both Adam and Chavah were together but they were really alone. Things had to change.  They did.

There are several ways of looking at this.  G-d Separated the man and woman.  G-d Took from the man.  The point is the relationship was not working.  There had to be a change in the relationship.  Adam and Chavah thought alike. They went to the same places.  They did everything together. There was no independence from each other.  They were always together. We learn from this that relationships need individual space.  My brother Gabor Yitzchok tells this story to couples who intend to wed.  He says to them, My wife and I take two days off.  I take Yom Sheini off and she takes Yom Sh'lishi off.

When our Creator Takes a woman from a man there is a wound left afterwards. Ha Torah Says that [He] closed over the flesh in its place. Anytime a couple separates there is a wound.  The man has a wound and the woman has a wound. Make no mistake there is a wound that requires closing. The time required for closing is different for each of us.  The Word  וַיִּסְגֹּר Vah Yee Sih Gohr means to lock, to close, to shut, to enclose, to bolt shut...  When a relationship ends when togetherness ends when sharing ends, when loving ends IT IS PAINFUL!!  The flesh must be closed over.

This next part is AMAZING!!   Notice the Word in gray.  It is  תַּחְתֶּנָּה Tah Chih Teh Nawh meaning to close over.  However the translation does not explain what is at the core of closing over.  The shoresh of  תַּחְתֶּנָּה Tah Chih Teh Nawh is חתן Chah Tawn meaning to wed.  The point is that marriage heals the wound of what one has lost.  So while one requires sometime to adjust after being separated from one's mate the real closing of separation comes with MARRIAGE not a relationship.

וַיִּבֶן יְהֹוָה אֱלֹהִים ׀ אֶת־הַצֵּלָע אֲשֶׁר־לָקַח מִן־הָאָדָם לְאִשָּׁה וַיְבִאֶהָ אֶל־הָאָדָם

And He, Hashem G-d, Built everything from the Letter Aleph to the Letter Tav from the side that He took from Ha Adam into [the most beautiful] wife and brought her to Adam [the man no longer the couple].

The reason I added the Words 'the most beautiful' to wife is because our Creator who fashioned Chavah built Chavah from everything from the Letter Aleph to the Letter Tav from the side that He took from Ha Adam.  The result had to be the best of the best.

May warmth enter our lives.  May we find our Soulmate.  May our source of goodness be realized by our mate.  May it be pleasing. May HaShem Bless us.

שֵׁם אֵשֶׁת־אַבְרָם שָׂרָי

The Name of Avram's Wife was Sarai

The Wealth of What Names Tell Us ©

Our Devri Torah is in the loving Memory of Mrs. Ethel Channah Sakash Belk, Mr. George Belk, Mr. Donald Wayne Belk and Mr. Gary Lee Belk and Mr. Arnold Student Litman may they rest in peace.

Limood Bereisheit 11

Bereisheit [Genesis] 11

Bereisheit 11.29 And Avram and Nachor took themselves wives.  The wife of Avram was Sarai...

The word tv,ae Ay Sheht meaning wife is interesting.  Ay Sheht has the Gematria of 701. Other words that share the Gematria 701 are:

 taec] Sih Ayt meaning elevation, majesty, dignity, strength and vigor.

ytirEp]hiw" Vih Hee Pih Ray Tee meaning And I [Elokim] Will Make you [Sarah] fruitful.

 µykia;l]mæ {Gematria Miluy Gadol} Mahl Aw Cheem meaning Angel, Messenger, Delegate, prophet.

701 = t400 v300 a1

701 = t400 a1 c300

701 = y10 t400 r200 p80 h5 w6

{Gematria Miluy Gadol}

701 = µ600 y10 k20 a1 l30 m40

So when Ha Torah Says 'The Name of Avram's Wife was Sarai' its real important to note that the name  tv,ae Ay Sheht Mystically Teaches that a wife is to be elevated by her husband.  A wife is to be treated with dignity.  Ones wife is worthy of honor and respect.  Why? Ha Torah Says, 'The Name of Avram's Wife was Sarai'.  Is the emphasis on Avram's wife's name is Sarai?  Or is the emphasis on Sarai is Avram's wife?  One could make an argument for both positions.   Notice the order of the words at the top of the page.  They are: Name Wife Avram Sarai.  The name wife comes first.  Why?  The name wife describes a position.  The name Sarai describes a person.  We observe the same pattern of words with Adam Ha Reshon.  Notice Bereisheit 2.20

 .yj...âAlK; µa´à ht...`y"h...â awhià yKiö hW:-j' /T¡v]ai µv´à µd:üa;h...â ar:éq"YIw"

The third word from the right is Shaym meaning name.

The fourth word from the right is Eesh Toh meaning wife.

The fifth word from the right is Chah Vah meaning Eve or mother of all living.

So while Ha Torah's purpose is to introduce Sarai as Avram's wife in actuality Ha Torah is Saying the wife of Avram is Sarai!  So the name wife takes precedence over the wife's name.  In other words the actions of what describes a wife's position is more important.

In Bereisheit 2.23 Adam Reshon calls Chavah hv;ai Ee Shaw meaning Woman or Wife.  hv;ai Ee Shaw is the root word for  tv,ae Ay Sheht meaning wife.  Our Sages Teach that the Letters a Aleph and [ Ayin maybe interchanged.  If we were to change the Aleph in hv;ai Ee Shaw to an Ayin the word would be spelled hc;[; Aw Saw meaning to make, to work, to labor, to act, to prepare, to produce, to yield, to create, to perform, to accomplish, to cause, to effect, to bring about, to execute, to appoint, to keep, to fulfill, to acquire to manage etc.  So by simply changing the Letter Aleph with an Ayin we see the fulfillment of  Proverbs 31.10- 31.

Epilogue: The Noble Wife of Good Character

A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies.

Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life.  She selects wool and flax and works with eager hands. She is like the merchant ships, bringing her food from afar. She gets up while it is still dark; she provides food for her family and portions for her servant girls. She considers a field and buys it; out of her earnings she plants a vineyard. She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks. She sees that her trading is profitable, and her lamp does not go out at night. In her hand she holds the distaff and grasps the spindle with her fingers. She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy. When it snows, she has no fear for her household; for all of them are clothed in scarlet.

She makes coverings for her bed; she is clothed in fine linen and purple. Her husband is respected at the city gate, where he takes his seat among the elders of the land. She makes linen garments and sells them, and supplies the merchants with sashes. She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom,

and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: "Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all." Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears Hashem is to be praised.

Give her the reward she has earned, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.

The Letter Aleph reminds us of G-d our Creator in our wife.  The Letter Ayin reminds us of all the things we see her accomplish for our good.  Thank G-d for giving men wonderful wives!!

When we interchange the Letter Aleph with the Letter Ayin in tv,ae Ay Sheht we get tv,[, Eh Sheht meaning to grow stout or bar of steel or strength of steel.  The point is that the Letter Ayin represent eyesight.  It is so important for the husband to recognize his wifes strength's her contributions, her labors and all that she does to make the husband wife relations so wonderful.  When man views the relationship with the Letter Aleph he views the relationship with judgment.  When the man views the relationship with the Letter Ayin he views the relationship with eyesight with perception with appreciation for the many many contributions of his wife.

May Hashem Bless each wife with her husband's who deep appreciate for her contribution to their marriage.  May Hashem strengthen each husband wife relationship with love and compassion and much appreciation!

Blessings and peace,

Dr. Akiva Gamliel
