When does Avram's name change?

Avram is ninety-six years old and his name is still Avram. In Passuk Hey / Verse 5 Avram's name is changed to Avraham.

Bereisheit 17.1

Genesis 17.1

And when Abram was ninety nine years old, the Lord appeared to Abram, and said to him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be perfect.

When we write about the perfection of Avram aren't we really writing about the perfection of each of us? Aren't we really writing about each of us walking before our Creator as The Lord God Instructed Avraham to do? So when I ask questions about what the Lord Meant isn't that directed to a personal level for each of us?

What did The Lord Mean when He Said to Avram, 'Walk before Me and be Perfect' ? Notice the last Word of the Passuk.

Taw Meem means honest, innocent, harmless, upright, naive, whole, full, complete, entire, flawless and unblemished...

The Word Taw Meem occurs 54 times in Ha Tenach. The first occurrence is Genesis 6.9 when Ha Torah States 'Noach was flawless in his generation.' The second occurrence of Taw Meem is here in Genesis 17.2. The Gematria of Taw Meem is 490.

In Genesis 15.2 Avram was 70 years old. Ha Torah Records Avram's statement, It is interesting that the tenth Word is עֲרִירִי Ah Ree Ree, meaning childless. The Gematria of עֲרִירִי Ah Ree Ree meaning: childless is 490.

Bereisheit 15.2

Genesis 15.2

And Abram said, Lord God, what will you give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus?

Avram's contention in Genesis 15.2 was 'Lord You have not given me children.' In last chapter's discussion of Genesis 16, Sarai, Avram's wife, had a similar contention. Sarai Said, 'The Lord has restrained me [Sarai] from having children.' Chronologically Genesis 16 is 15 years past Genesis 15.2.

In Genesis 16 Sarai gave Avram her handmaiden, Hagar. Avram was 85 years old at the time. A year later when Avram was 86 years old Yishmael is born. Something changes. Avram is no longer childless. Yet, Sarai remains childless.

Taw Meem / Perfect

ת400 מ40 י10 ם40 = 490

Ah Ree Ree / Childless

ע70 ר200 י10 ר200 י10 = 490

What is the connection between these two Gematrias? What does not having children and walking perfect before The Lord possibly indicate? What did Avram lack? What do we lack? Do children bring about perfection? Do children bring about trials which may lead to perfection? Don't parents look back as grandparents and often say something like wish I knew what I know now today about raising children? I would have done things differently... think of the Words 'Walk before Me'.  This indicates that before a husband and his wife bring children into the world they should work on them selves first so there home will be the place to raise godly children.

Bereisheit 16.1

Genesis 16.1

And Sarai, the wife of Avram, had no children and she had a Egyptian maid servant and her name was Hagar.

At this time Sarai was 75 years of Age and Avraham was 85 years of age. Ha Torah Says Avram was 99 and Yishmael was 13 at the time of their Brit Milah. 13 from 99 equals 86. Avram was 86 when Yishmael was born and 85 when Yishmael was conceived, Genesis 17.24,25.

Bereisheit 16.2

Genesis 16.2

And She, Sarai Said to Avram, Behold! Now! The Lord Has Constrained me from having children. Go, now to my maid servant, it maybe you can build [through her] and he, Avram listened to the voice of Sarai.

I was seeking a ladies perspective on the words וַיִּשְׁמַע אַבְרָם לְקוֹל שָׂרָי so I asked my wife, Brachah Rivkah what her perspective was on these words. Brachah Rivkah wrote several comments:

'Sarai was influenced by the customs of the time and the people whom they were surrounded by.' Society influence's us.

'She Saw that The Lord was restraining her from becoming pregnant because of some failing within her. The act of selflessness was meant to obtain favor from The Lord and in someway "atone" for her failing. Was she right to do this? Should she have waited? I think most people believe she should have waited. But Sarai did not want barriers in her relationship to The Lord. so Sarai took Hagar and gave her to Avram. He did not take Hagar. He received her from Sarai...'

What are your thoughts on this matter?

My close friend Yochanan and I were discussing these words. Yochanan felt like one has to see beyond the words sometimes. He felt like Avram should have prayed about Sarai's Words. He should have talked to The Lord like he did in Genesis 21.12. There we observe several changes. First the words are not לְקוֹל שָׂרָי meaning, 'listen to her voice.'

They are תֹּאמַר אֵלֶיךָ שָׂרָה שְׁמַע בְּקֹלָהּ meaning, 'Sarai, She Said to him, hear meaning in the words.' In other words hear what my heart is saying.

I think this means, hear what is in Sarai's heart... what is in Sarai's mind. Hear the intent of Sarai and not just what she is saying. Don't listen just to the words. Listen to her intent. In Genesis 16.2 Avram listened to the Words Sarai Said. A full month in the Jewish calendar, is thirty days. This is equal to the Letter Lamid.

The moon and its cycle of birth and death are a symbol of rebirth every thirty days. In the sefirot there are ten attributes. Each attribute is an emanation of The Lord God. We study the attributes to learn how to be more like our Creator. One of the ten attributes is Malchut, meaning kingdom. Malchut embodies King David in that he is a King that descended from the kingly tribe of Yehudah / Judah. How? The Gematria of יְהוּדָה Yehudah is 30.

Yehudah

י10 ה5 ו6 ד4 ה5 = 30

This is mystically representative of the Letter ל Lamid and of the month's renewal. In קידוש לבנה which is the service of blessing the new moon we exclaim:

And He Said of the moon, that it should renew itself like a crown of splendor, as those that are borne [by Him] from the womb, those who are destined to renew themselves [each month] like [like the moon] and to glorify their Creator for the sake of His Glorious Kingdom. Blessed are You Lord Who Renews the months. The Shottenstein Edition Siddur for Weekdays With An Interlinear Translation (Mesorah Publications, Ltd., Brooklyn, N.Y. first edition 2002) p 456

An Adult woman has a monthly cycle. The basic, physically cycle is connected to the lunar month which is the basis of the Jewish calendar.

All of this is represented by the Letter Lamid. Now we connect the Lamid to the voice of Sarai. It is לְקוֹל שָׂרָי which means 'listen to the voice [heart] of Sarai. This is the issue that men have. Husbands listen to the voice of their wife without hearing or understanding what the wife's heart is saying. I think this is why The Lord used the Letter ב Bet in Genesis 21.12 when Speaking with Avraham.

Bereisheit 21.12

Genesis 21.12

And God said to Abraham, Let it not be grievous in your sight because of the lad, and because of your slave; in all that Sarah has said to you, listen to her voice; for in Isaac shall your seed be called.

We see in this Verse the Letter bet three times. Is this an indication that Avraham did not want to see... that Avraham did not want to listen... than Avraham wanted to share between Yishmael and Yitzchok? I don't know. However it is clear that Avraham was torn by what Sarah said. Avraham's heart was crushed. His heart was torn!

I think the point is for men not just to listen to their wife's voice but to hear what is in her heart. The Letter ל Lamid and ב Bet spell לב Lav meaning 'heart'. What is my wife communicating. So, if Avram had heard the heart of Sarah it would not have mattered that Sarai brought Hagar to him to be a wife to give him children. It would not have mattered that this was the custom of society the community. Why? Men must listen to the heart of their wife. The wife says the proper things, the expected thing. Yet the heart may not always agree with the voice. The voice of the wife attempts to put up a good front. The voice of the wife attempts to be pleasing to her husband. Many times a wife says what she thinks her husband whats her to say. The husband must go beyond the voice of his wife to hear her heart. In other words we could ask, is the husband seeking a rubber stamp from his wife? Such an action is normally not the best choice. Although the husband is listening to his Wife's Words he listens with blindness. He is not listening to her heart. The Gematria of לְקוֹל שָׂרָי Lih Kohl Sarai is 676. The Gematria of עוֹרֹת Oh Roht Blindness is also 676.

Lih Kohl Sarai

To hear Sarai's voice

ל30 ק100 ו6 ל30 ש300 ר200 י10 = 676

Oh Roht

Blindness

ע70 ו6 ר200 ת400 = 676

Dear Reader, there is a great deal that happens in Genesis 15 which is especially known as the 'Covenant between the Pieces.' Avram is seventy years old. Sarai is Sixty years old. This was in year 2,018 From Creation. It was their first venture into Eretz Canaan. They would visit then return to Charan. They would leave Charan for the last time in 2,023 From Creation. That is five years away.

In Chapter 15 we learn:

The Lord is Avram's shield -

Avram and Sarai were childless

Avram is told he would have children - Look to the Heavens ... so shall your seed be...

The Lord tells Avram that He delivered him from the fires of the Chaldees...

Avram is instructed to sacrifice...

Avram is informed his seed would be strangers in a land that is not their's and will be afflicted four hundred years...

The Lord will Judge the nation responsible...

His Descendants would come forth with great wealth.

In the fourth Generation they will return to the land...

The Lord and Avram made a covenant.

Avram was informed,

Genesis 15.16

And you shall go to your fathers in peace;

you shall be buried in a good old age.

Genesis 15 Teaches us about death.

The Lord God offers comfort to Avram. '[Your Soul] shall go to your fathers in peace.'

Let's examine the mysticism of Children.

Bereisheit 15.1

Genesis 15.1

After these Words, it happened the Word of The Lord came to Avram in a vision [in an ecstatic state] saying, 'Fear not Avram, I am your shield. Your reward is very great'.

Listen, Avram was an astrologer. He could see in the stars that he as Avram and his wife as Sarai would not have children.

Chapter - 13 Traveling Towards the Altar

Bereisheit  / Genesis 13.1 - 18

Bereisheit 13.1

Genesis 13.1

And He, Avram went up from Mitzraim, He and his wife and all that he had, and Lot together they went south.

Bereisheit 13.2

Genesis 13.2

And Avram was burdened greatly in cattle in silver and in gold.

This almost has the appearance of a fairy tale. Why? Only a very small number of individuals are wealthy like Avram.  The Word  כָּבֵד Caw Bayd means heavily burdened. Caw Bayd means one is weighted down. Avram was so wealthy that his wealth was an encumbrance to him. It was a troublesome difficulty for him. Avram was over loaded with wealth. Avram was wealth was so great it was oppressive. The Torah portion of the Bible Tells us Avram was greatly burdened in cattle, in silver and in gold. It is difficult for me to imagine being that wealthy. Many of us are on the other side of that coin.  We are burdened with paying bills and earning enough to get by.

Abraham is a most unique individual. What do I mean?  Adam HaReshon / the first man taught very guarded Torah truths to Chanoch who was taken and to his son Methushelach who taught them to Noach who taught them to his son Shem and to Abraham. The span of lives reached from Adam to Methushelach to Noach to Abraham. The principles Abraham learned from Noach and Shem  greatly strengthened his faith in the Lord. Then Abraham's faith drew him close to the Creator of the universe.

Abraham was not weighed down with guests or being hospitable. Abraham was not weighed down by his daily hours of Torah study. Abraham was not weighed down by his many daily hours of Teaching his Talmidim.

We, on the other hand are weighed down with earning a living and as a result it becomes a struggle for us to do as our Father Abraham did. It is a challenge for us to be hospitable.  It is a daily strain to learn Torah let alone the thought of teaching others. We are so different in comparison to Father Abraham. Our Father Abraham was full of Emunah / Faith yet we do not read anything about faith being a weight to Abraham.  We do not read of prayer being a weight to Abraham. Is it possible that we are a little backwards in comparison to Abraham? These areas that the Torah portion of the Bible does not out right mention are mystical. They are hidden.  The Name of our Creator is the Gematria 26. The Gematria of the Word כָּבֵד Caw Bayd meaning  heavily burdened is also 26. The Letters of the Word כַּבֵּד Cah Bayd, meaning to honor are also the same spelling. The vowels are different so the pronunciation is different.

י-ה-ו-ה

The Lord

י10 ה5 ו6 ה5 = 26

Burden down

כ20 ב2 ד4 = 26

יודו

Yoh Doo / Tp praise, to offer thanksgiving

י10 ו6 ד4 ו6 = 26

It is also interesting to note that the names of the Matriarchs and the Patriarchs combined have 26 letters.

אברהם = 5

יצחק = 4

יעקב = 4

שרה = 3

רבקה = 4

רחל = 3

לאה = 3

_______

26

We must ask ourself, what burdens me? Mystically Abraham was burdened with The Lord. Abraham did not seek wealth or honor. Abraham sought The Lord.  Yet Abraham did not consider these a burden. And it is not 'JUST' that Abraham  was burdened with the Lord, i.e burdened with being hospitable, daily Torah study, daily prayer daily education of others IT WAS HOW Abraham went about being burdened with the Lord.

Our Matriarchs and Patriarchs left us a good path to follow right to the Altar of The Lord...

Terach's business was the sale of idols, and the young Avram did his best to convince people not to buy them. Once it happened that his father had to go on a trip and left Avram in charge of his store. His instructions to his son were, "The bigger the god, the higher the price you charge. If an important person comes in, offer him a big idol; to a lesser customer, give a smaller one." Terach left.

An impressive looking broad shouldered man entered the store. "Give me a big idol as befits my status!" he pompously addressed the boy Avram. Avram handed him the largest idol he could find on the shelves and the man drew a substantial amount of money from his pocket.

"How old are you?" Avram questioned him.

"I am fifty years old."

"And you are not ashamed to worship a god that is only one day old?" Avram asked. "My father just made this one yesterday!" Confused, the man put the money back in his pocket and left.

An old woman entered. She told Avram that thieves had invaded her house during the previous night and stolen her gods.

"Is that so?" Avram asked. "If your gods were unable to protect themselves from the robbers, how do you expect them to protect you?"

"You are right," the woman admitted. "But whom shall we serve?"

"The Greater of heaven and earth who made me and you," Avraham answered. The woman left without buying a god.

Another woman came with a bowl full of flour as an offering for the gods. Avram took an axe and smashed all the idols except the biggest. He placed the axe leaning against the big idol. When Terach returned and saw the havoc in the house, he screamed angrily, "What happened here?"
"Why shall I conceal the truth from you? While you were away, a woman brought some flour as an offering. Each god exclaimed that he wanted to be the first to have it. The biggest was insulted, so he seized an axe and broke all the others!"

"What nonsense is this?" shouted Terach. "You know very well that they neither speak nor move around."

"Is that so?" Avram retorted. "Pray think about what you just admitted. Why then do you serve them?' '

One day it was Terach's turn to conduct the services before the gods in Nimrod's royal palace. Terach took Avram along to the capital. They arrived in Nimrod's palace and found it to contain a large exhibition of gods in gold, silver, copper, wood, and stone.

Terach brought bread and wine and offered them to the gods. "Take them, eat, and drink," Avram said to the idols, "and be appeased." None of the idols moved or answered with a sound.

"You see, they are not worth anything," Avram remarked.

He threw all the idols and shoved them together in a pile. Then he set fire to them and hurriedly fled from the palace.

This could not be ignored any longer. Terach himself, a loyal subject of King Nimrod, reported his son's misdemeanor to the king.

Avram had successfully passed the first trial. He had applied his mind to recognize his Creator and had rejected idol worship.

After reading this conversation it is understandable why the Creator of the Universe Instructed Abraham to leave his place of birth, his relatives and his father.

Dear Ones our discussion begins with our Creator Instructing Avram to leave his place of birth, his relatives and his father house.

Bereisheit 12.1

Genesis 12.1

And He, The Lord had said to Abram, Go! Get out from your country, and from your family, and from your father's house, to a land that I will show you...

Why does the Bible Say Terach died 60 years before he died?  The Midrash informs us Terach manufactured idols. He stopped manufacturing idols before he died. He eventually returns to The Lord God.

לֶךְ Lehk means 'Go' and לְךָ Lih Kah means get out! When we drop the zeros of לֶךְ Lehk the Gematria numbers is ה Hey which equals 5.

The 5 represents the Five Books of Moses, i.e. The Torah.

ל30 ך20 = 50 - drop the zeros

ל3 ך2 = 5

I have been placing a strong emphasis upon the number 5. Why? When Abram was Abram, i.e. the Gematria 243 he was not the Father of nations. The Promise from the Creator seemed impossible. However 1 year before the birth of Isaac the Creator changed Abram's name to Abraham. Our Creator added the Letter Hey to Abraham's name. Our Creator added 5 to 243 to equal 248. 248 represents the organs in the body. One could say the Creator healed or added organs that may have been missing or not working correctly.

Abram

א1 ב2 ר200 ם40 = 243

ָAbraham

א2 ב2 ר200 ה5 ם40 = 248

We note another Promise of our Creator to Abram.

Genesis 15.15

You will join your fathers in peace; you will be buried at a good old age.

Rashi Says this verse Teaches that Terach repented from his idol making. It also Teaches that Abraham would die five years before his appointed time. Rabbi Avrohom Davis, The Mesudah Chumash A New Linear Translation Bereishis (Hoboken New Jersey, KTVA Publishing House, Inc., 1991) p 150

The Gematria of Terach is 608 תֶּרַח .

ת400 ר200 ח8 = 608.

What happens when the Letter ה Hey is added to Terach' Name? The Gematria changes to 613. What does 613 represent? 613 represents all the Commands of the Creator. So we see that if the Letter Hey were added to Terach his name would equal 613. And perhaps we would see Terach observing All the Commands including the ones that he formerly violated.

Bereisheit 25.1

Genesis 25.1

And He, Avraham again took his wife and her name was Keturah.

Our Sages Teach that Avraham took Hagar whose name was changed to Keturah because here deeds were as beautiful / spiritual as קְטֹרֶת incense. Incense rises to the Heavens like one's Spirit. The root for קטר means incense, smoke and to shut one's self in, to enclose. Because of Hagar's attitude she became known as Keturah, the lady with a Spirit like incense or the lady who secluded herself to remain true to her husband. Keturah was was well thought of because she did not seek a divorce from Avraham. And Avraham did not grant Hagar a divorce. The Torah Portion of the Bible Says, וַיְשַׁלְּחֶהָ Vah Yih Shah Lih Cheh Caw, meaning 'And he sent her away.' Hagar was lost without her husband, Avraham. Ha Torah does NOT Say Avraham divorced Hagar. Sarah did not say to Avraham divorce Hagar. Sarah Said,

Genesis 21.10

[Sarah] Said to Avraham, 'Drive out this slave woman and everything from Aleph to Tav of her son for the son of this slave woman will not inherit with my son with Yitzchok.'

We have NO indication that Avraham divorced Hagar. Our Creator Said to Avraham,

Genesis 21.12

Elohim Said to Avraham, 'Do not consider this wrong in your eyes on account of the boy and your slave woman. Regarding all that Sarah tells you listen to her. For through Yitzchok will seed be considered yours.

The Gematria of וַיִּקַּח אִשָּׁה Vah Yee Kah Ach - Ee Shaw, meaning and he took is 430. The Gematria of נֶפֶשׁ Neh Pehsh / Nefesh meaning 'Soul' is 430. When one takes a wife Mystically we observe he is connecting with a soul. His wife is his Soulmate. How does one know He / she are soul mates? The fact is we are each from the same soul given to us by our Parents of Creation. Still the concept of one's SoulMate being the perfect one... the exact match... the correct fit... is correct. One must understand that perfection is received through marriage. Marriage is an institute where by the husband and wife help to polish the other into what our Creator Intends. The husband and wife work together to form a holy relationship to have a Holy Family with Holy children. The work together to be the single soul God Created them as.

Vah Yee Kah Ach - Ee Shaw, and he took

ו6 י10 ק100 ח8 - א1 ש300 ה5 = 430

Neh Pehsh / Nefesh 'Soul'

נ50 פ80 ש300 = 430

Remember: THERE IS A CHOICE! A man or woman's intent is VERY IMPORTANT. The purpose of taking each other is NOT for just physical sexual pleasure. The Marriage relationship is intended by our Creator to be one of Holiness. Our Creator Blessed the marriage relationship. He did NOT Bless the one night sexual fling!!

Sarah was noted as Avram's Wife. This is an elevated place. Bereisheit 16.2

Ha Torah Says, 'And Sarai, Avram's wife took... Why does Ha Torah inform us Sarai was Avram's wife? We already know this. Why not say Sarah took. Why was it necessary to point out Sarah was Avram's wife again? Ha Torah Informs us that Sarai took Hagar to be Avram's wife in Genesis 16.3.

[Avram's] Wife / His Wife

א1 ש300 ת400 = 701

To Elevate... To Rise...

ש300 א1 ת400 = 701

For a Husband and Wife to reach the lofty Mystical place of being a SoulMate requires elevating the relationship. It requires raising the relationship. Being a 'SoulMate' is not physical. Being a 'SoulMate' is Spiritual!

We continue with several additional points of importance.

What did Avraham do?

He got up early in the morning. Whenever we see Avraham facing a great difficulty we observe these three Words, See Genesis 19.27; 21.14 and 22.3. The first Letter of each Word combined spells שֹׁאֵב Shoh Ayv, meaning to draw as in to draw strength or as in to draw water (Devarim 29.10) which Mystically means to draw strength from Ha Torah. Sending Yishmael and Hagar away was troubling for Avraham but he did it first thing in the morning. Watching Sedom burn was troubling for Avraham. He arose early in the morning with the hopes there were ten righteous in Sedom. Avraham counted, Lot, Lot's wife, Lot's two married daughters and their husbands, Lot's two daughters who were yet to consummate their marriage and their husbands, a total of 10. When Avraham saw the smoke from the fire it was troubling to him. He felt great anxiety. Avraham arose early to travel to the place where he would offer Yitzchok as an offering. Why? This was deeply troubling to him. Voo Vih Tzraw Rawh, meaning 'And with trouble.' From this we learn that Avraham faced his troubles in the morning. Avraham would draw from the Wells of Torah for Strength. The morning was Avraham's time for prayer. Avraham would seek הָרַחֲמִים Haw Rah Chah Meem, meaning the Mercy [of The Lord]. The Gematria of שֹׁאֵב Shoh Ayv, meaning to draw {from the waters of Ha Torah] is 303. The Gematria of וּבְצָרָה Voo Vih Tzraw Rawh, meaning 'And with trouble.' is 303. The Gematria of הָרַחֲמִים Haw Rah Chah Meem, meaning the Mercy [of The Lord] is 303.

Shoh to draw {from the waters of Ha Torah]

ש300 א1 ב2 = 303

Voo Vih Tzraw Rawh, 'And with trouble.'

ו6 ב2 צ90 ר200 ה5 = 303

Haw Rah Chah Meem, the Mercy [of The Lord]

ה5 ר200 ח8 מ40 י10 ם40 = 303

We have discussed how Avraham faced issues that deeply troubled him. Now lets return to considering what a SoulMate is. We have established that The Torah Portion of the Bible does not Say Avraham divorced Hagar. This means they remained married. They remained separated for 38 years. How do we know this? Yitzchok was weaned when Yishmael mocked him, Genesis 21.8 - 14. Our Sages Teach this was after 24 months which is the customary time for a child to suckle, Gittin 75b; Kesuvot 60b. Yitzchok was 40 years of age when he married Rivkah, Genesis 25.20. It was immediately after this Avraham again took his wife Hagar whose name became Keturah.

Bereisheit 25.1

Genesis 25.1

And He, Avraham again took his wife and her name was Keturah.

I understand אִשְׁתּוֹ is the Word for 'His Wife. Because אִשָּׁה is used the translation would normally would be 'Wife' or 'A Wife'. However Keturah was already Avraham's wife. Therefore this usage means something entirely different than what meets the eye. When Avraham married Hagar she was Sarah's Servant. Notice the Wording carefully!!

In Genesis 25.1 Ha Torah Informs us that Avraham took again. Does this mean He took Sarah and now he was taking a wife again? Or does this mean Avram had already taken Hagar and was taking her back again? The Answer has to do with Sarai was the wife of Avram. Hagar was a wife to Avram but not אֵשֶׁת 'his wife' because she belonged to Sarai. This changed when Avram sent Hagar out from his home. Hagar was free. She was no longer Avram's responsibility to care for as a slave. As a result he only gave her bread and water, i.e. Mystically Ha Torah to live on.

Exodus 21.7 -

And if a man sells his daughter to be a maidservant, she shall not go out as the menservants do. If she pleases not her master, who has designated her for himself, then shall he let her be redeemed; to sell her to a strange nation he shall have no power, seeing he has dealt deceitfully with her. And if he has betrothed her to his son, he shall deal with her as with a daughter. If he takes for himself another wife; her food, her garment, and her duty of marriage, shall he not diminish. And if he does not do these three things to her, then shall she go out free without payment of money.

Thirty eight years pass. Sarah dies. Yitzchok marryies Rivkah. At this point Avraham again takes Hagar. We know it is Hagar because of several Words that are used.

First is וַיֹּסֶף אַבְרָהָם and again Avraham took a wife...

Second is וַיִּקַּח אִשָּׁה 'And he took a wife.' Ha Torah Uses this language to point out this was Hagar, a wife. In Ha Torah 'A Wife' who is owned as a servant is not like a wife that is free. Hagar was NOT אֵשֶׁת אַבְרָם a wife of Avram. Hagar was Sarai's bond maiden. Hagar was a servant wife. She was owned by Sarai. So Sarai gave Hagar to her husband Avram to be a wife not to be אֵשֶׁת אַבְרָם a wife of Avram. So when we see Ha Torah Say וַיֹּסֶף אַבְרָהָם וַיִּקַּח אִשָּׁה 'And He, Avraham again took his wife...' We understand this is in reference to Hagar, 'a wife.' Our Sages point out that Hagar's / Keturah's status is still that of a concubine, i.e. a wife who status is lower than אֵשֶׁת אַבְרָם 'His Wife', Genesis 25.6. Rabbi Avrohom Davis, The Mesudah Chumash A New Linear Translation Bereishis (Hoboken New Jersey, KTVA Publishing House, Inc., 1991) p 267

The Torah portion of the Bible Teaches a man may have more than one wife at the same time. While a Wife may only have one Husband. Why? Does this seem equal? Is this fair? This is not an issue of fairness or equality. It is an issue of mixing seed which is prohibited by the Creator. Now, we are also required to abide by the laws where we reside. Laws that prohibit polygamy must be followed.

How Did Avram Pray?

Bereisheit 13.4

Genesis 13.4

[Avram went] to the place of the Altar that he built their in the first visit and called their Avram through The Name of The Lord.

Avram is a mystic to us. We follow Avram. We study Avram. A great deal can be learned in doing this. Today we are going to consider how Avram may have called out to The Lord.

The Letter ב Bet in the Word בְּשֵׁם Bih Saym may mean:

in the Name...

with the Name...

through the Name...

There are other possibilities as well.

We are going to consider the possibility of 'through the Name'.

When we look at the Word בְּשֵׁם Bih Saym we understand שֵׁם could be in reference to:

The Holy Name...

A designation for The Holy Name...

A place of the Holy Name...

There are other possibilities as well.

We are going to consider the possibility of 'through a designation of the Holy Name'. In this discussion designation would mean Torah.

What is the Gematria of Torah?

Torah

ת400 ו6 ר200 ה5 =611

ָAvram through The Name of The Lord

א1 ב2 ר200 ם = 40 = 243

ב2 ש300 ם40 = 342

י10 ה5 ו6 ה5 = 26

611 = 26 + 342 +243

Mystically we see Avram crying out to the Creator through Words of Ha Torah. What Words? Perhaps:

Bereisheit 15.1

Genesis 15.1

'...Fear not Avram, I am Your Shield, your reward is very great.'

Bereisheit 12.3

Genesis 12.3

I will bless then that bless you...

Notice the Word תִּירָא the Gematria for תִּירָא is 611 also.

Fear

ת400 י10 ר200 א 1 = 611

[Avram went] to the place of the Altar that he built their in the first visit and called their Avram through Words of The Torah of The Lord.

One could say,

[Avram went] to the place of the Altar that he built their in the first visit and called their Avram in fear [awesome respect] of The Lord.

Mystically there are many possibilities. Yet we see the different ways in which one may call out to The Lord.

How are we Influenced By The Letter כ ך Chof ?

By Dr. Akiva Gamliel Belk

Dean of Jewish Studies at B'nai Noach Torah Institute, LLC

Course Textbook

http://www.bnti.us/books.html

We continue on Page 34

The normal Letter כ  Chof looks like a reversed letter c in English. The Final Letter Chof looks like and upside down capital letter L from English.  The Gematria of Chof is 20. When the Letter Chof is at the end of a Word the Gematria maybe either 20 or 500.

Bereisheit 12.1 -

Genesis 12.1

And He, The Lord Said to Avram, Go! Get Out! from your land and from your relatives and from your Father's House to go to the Land that I will show you.

This is like saying 'Go to a land that I will show you and Get away from your land and from your relatives and from your Father's House.  This was a Message to Avram and to Sarai.

Genesis 11.26

And Terah lived seventy years, and fathered Abram, Nahor, and Haran.

It would appear like Abram, Nahor, and Haran were triplets. We know Avram was born in 1948 F. C. [From Creation].  Our Sages Teach Avram left Charan for the first time at the age of 70. Genesis 15 took place when Avraham was 70 years old.  Five years later Avram left Charan the second time at the age of 75. This means when Avram left Charan at the age of 75 his Father would have been 145 years of age. So when Ha Torah Says Terach died at the age of 205 this would have been 60 years from When Avraham left his land, his relatives and his Father's house.

Genesis 11.32

And the days of Terach were two hundred and five years; and Terach died in Haran.

Genesis 12.4

So Abram departed, as the Lord Had [Previously] spoken to him; and Lot went with him; and Abram was seventy five years old when he departed from Charan.

Terach lived 60 years after Avram departed Charan. Yet, at the time Avram left his Father it was like he was a dead man. This is the message we are given when Ha Torah says Terach lived to 205 years then died. Yet, we know In Genesis 15 Avram received a prophecy that when he would live to advanced in years and then he would go to be with his Fathers. Our Sages Say this included Terach who use to be an Idol maker. Terach repented before his death The Letter כ Chof had the power to reverse Terach life style.

Genesis 15.15

And you shall go to your fathers in peace; you shall be buried in a good old age.

We Mystically Observe the influence of the Chof in the following three Words.

ך = 20

ך = 20

ך = 20

60

The Word הַהֹלֵךְ Ha Hoh Laych means 'To Go' The Gematria is 60. In addition we know this is in relationship to Avram beause Genesis 13.5 Says.

Ha Hoh Laych / To Go

ה5 ה5 ל30 ך20 = 60

Bereisheit 13.5

Genesis 13.5

And Lot also, went to go with Abram, had flocks, and herds, and tents.

Lih Loht / To Lot or Also Lot

ל30 ל30 ו6 ט9 = 75

75 is the age Avram left Charan.

Mystically we see many interesting nuggets. We Observe that the Letter Chof would change Avram. In Avot, i.e. Ethics of our Fathers we read, Rav Yehudah Said, Be careful in study for an error in study amounts to presumption. Rav Shimon Said, there are three Crowns. There is the Crown of Ha Torah, the Crown of the Priesthood and the crown of Royalty. However the Crown of a good name excels them all, Avot 4.13.

Genesis 12.2

And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing;

We know The Lord God Changed Avram's name in Genesis 17.

Genesis 17.5-7

Neither shall your name any more be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I Made you. And I Will Make you exceedingly fruitful, and I Will Make nations of you, and kings shall come out of you. And I Will Establish My Covenant between Me and you and your seed after you in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God to you, and to your seed after you.
